Nashville SC’s October DJ of the Month is the Miami-native husband-and-wife duo Kat & Alex.
The couple, who describe their music as “a crossroad of soul meets country all tied together with a little bit of pop,” moved to Nashville to pursue their music careers. “As country music singers, we knew this was the place we had to be to pursue our career. It all happens in Nashville.”
Kat, who grew up playing volleyball, and Alex, who grew up a basketball player, are newly converted soccer fans. Having moved from Florida just after Miami introduced its Major League Soccer team Inter Miami CF, the pair commented, “we’ve never had a real chance to enjoy [soccer] at home until we moved to Nashville.”
Their first Nashville SC game doubles as their favorite sports memory: when they performed the national anthem for Hispanic Heritage Month. They were instantly hooked after the match, noting the “atmosphere was completely electric.”
The couple believes that having MLS in Nashville “shows the growth of this city onto the national stage.” Even more, they reflect on the relationship between MLS and music: “For us it seems really easy to pair the two. We strive to bring our Latino heritage into our music and the soccer community has such a strong Latino fanbase worldwide. The two just seem to go together so well, bringing people good times.”
As for advice for those in the music business, Kat & Alex want people to know that it may be competitive, but it’s a rewarding career, so “keep chasing that dream.”
Having just finished up in the studio, the duo expects to have new music out at the beginning of next year. “We really feel like we’ve recorded some of our best music and cannot wait for everyone to hear it.”
