Our July DJ of the Month is EDM artist and Nashville native Protohype. He describes his sound as “high-energy electronic music with big melodies, and heavy drops,” and is inspired by a variety of artists ranging from EDM artist Skrillex to his all-time favorite artist, Paul McCartney. Upon first hearing electronic music in college, he says he remembers an undeniable feeling, knowing that it would be his future.
Protohype is a big sports fan and grew up playing basketball, football, baseball, lacrosse and soccer. So when Nashville SC came to town, he was excited to have another team to pull for. He has been a fan of the club since its inaugural Major League Soccer season in 2020 and attended his first game in person last month, describing it as "one of the best soccer games [he’s] attended.” For Protohype, music and sports go hand in hand. The energy between the two is contagious and “combining the both only creates greatness."
When it comes to industry advice, he encourages other musicians to "be patient, enjoy the grind, and enjoy the journey."
Catch Protohype on tour next spring, and until then check out the music on his label, Underdog Records. You can follow him on social media @Protohype.
