The Boys in Gold are flying, and they’ll be looking to continue this start to the season with a performance against FC Cincinnati in 2025’s first matchup between these two rivals.
Key Storylines
Record Setting Start – After kicking off the season with a scoreless draw against the New England Revolution and a loss on the road to the Red Bulls, the Boys in Gold have clicked into gear. Nashville is enjoying its best-ever start to an MLS season, boasting a record in points (10), goals scored (8), and goal difference (+5) through the first five matches of a season.
Nashville SC is also spreading the goalscoring responsibility throughout the team this season. Eight goals have come from seven different goal scorers. Ahmed Qasem leads the line with two goals to his name, while Hany Mukhtar, Sam Surridge, Jonny Pérez, Walker Zimmerman, Josh Bauer, and Andy Najar have all contributed one goal to the cause.
Defensive Discipline – While the attacking play up the pitch is what grabs most headlines, Nashville’s defensive solidity so far this season is what allows the team to go forward and get goals. Three clean sheets so far this season means that Joe Willis has now attained 70 career clean sheets, fifth most amongst active MLS goalkeepers.
The defenders are getting in on the attacking action, too. In addition to the defensive goal scoring contributions earlier, assists are emerging from the backline. Dan Lovitz marked a career milestone by assisting in three consecutive regular season matches for the first time in his career. Walker Zimmerman has also notched two assists thus far.
More Hany History – Nashville’s #10 continues to make history. On his 150th regular season appearance on Saturday, the German attacker registered his 49th and 50th regular season assists. Hany now sits equal with Roy Lassiter for seventh all-time in goal contributions (117) through 150 games played.
Opposition Player to Watch - Keep an eye on Cincinnati’s Evander Ferreira. The Brazilian joined FC Cincinnati this past offseason from the Portland Timbers, and he’s settled in quickly. The #10 leads Cincinnati with three goals and one assist in MLS play so far, including a brace against Atlanta United on Matchday five.
