Every week, the Pipeline Roundup recaps the weekend that was for the Nashville SC organization from the first team to Huntsville City FC, to the Nashville SC academy and the Nashville SC front office.
First Team: Seven. That’s how many goals Nashville SC put past the Chicago Fire at GEODIS Park on Saturday.
The first half of Saturday’s match was a whirlwind, with Sam Surridge opening the scoring through a penalty kick in the 14th minute. Colombian center back Jeisson Palacios scored his first goal in Gold in the 22nd minute before Hany Mukhtar extended the lead with two goals in the 25th and 31st minutes. Surridge tacked on the fifth goal during first half stoppage time.
It didn’t take long after the second half kicked off for the Boys in Gold to extend the lead. Andy Najar played a direct ball over the top to a surging Sam Surridge, who netted the 6th goal and his second hat trick in Nashville colors. Surridge and Najar combined again to make it seven goals and a historic night at GEODIS Park.
Najar’s two assists on Surridge’s goals in the second half and one of Mukhtar’s goals in the first half is a club record for a defender in a single MLS match.
Nashville’s performance on Saturday earned Surridge, Mukhtar, Najar and head coach BJ Callaghan on the MLS Team of the Matchday.
Homegrown Chris Applewhite also made his home debut, coming onto the field in the 86th minute for Jeisson Palacios. Applewhite made his Nashville and MLS debut the week prior against the Seattle Sounders and became the second Nashville Homegrown player to make his debut for the Boys in Gold.
Nashville SC travels to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face off against Atlanta United this Saturday before returning to GEODIS Park to host the Chattanooga Red Wolves in US Open Cup action.
