CLEARWATER, Fla. – Nashville Soccer Club wrapped up its preseason schedule in Florida with a 1-1 draw against D.C. United Wednesday night at Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex. Midfielder Hany Mukhtar scored Nashville SC’s lone goal.
The match got off to a fast start with D.C. United striking first in the 8’ minute. Nashville SC responded quickly with a goal of its own after midfielder Derrick Jones was taken down by a D.C. United player in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Mukhtar stepped up to the spot and buried the penalty in the 12’ minute to equalize. Nashville SC stayed on the front foot for the remainder of the first half, testing D.C. United goalkeeper Chris Seitz many times before going into halftime tied at one.
An even second half featured scoring chances for both sides, but neither team was able to break the deadlock.

Box O’ Jones: Derrick Jones has been a handful for opposing defenses, earning penalties in two straight matches.The versatile midfielder has been a focal point of the Nashville SC attack throughout preseason, being played in multiple areas of the pitch and distributing the ball efficiently.
Hard To Break: Nashville SC conceded one goal or fewer in five of six preseason matches. The defensive shape of the team has proven to be effective in stomping out opposing attacks.
Walking Tall: New acquisition Walker Zimmerman played 82 minutes in his Nashville SC debut. The 2019 MLS Best XI defender was “pleased” with his first action and described his center back partnership with Dave Romney as “very smooth.”
