Throughout Black History Month, we’re chatting with the Black members of our staff about their experiences in the sports industry, how they got to where they are today, and what Black History Month means to them.
Next up is Chris Daniels.
What is your role with Nashville SC?
I’m a graphic designer, a part of the marketing department where I handle some of the creative needs day in & day out, here at Nashville SC.
Tell us about your career path. What led you to join Nashville SC?
I originally got my start with Nashville SC by interning Fall 2019. An opportunity came about to join the club full-time March 2022, and I took advantage. My experience with how welcoming the organization was & a great work environment during my time as an intern, is what ultimately led me back here.
Why is representation so important, particularly in the sports industry?
Representation overall is important because there’s so many different people & backgrounds that play a key part into where we are today. We’re not here without one another & having that unity together.
In the creative space, how important is it to have a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives?
Different perspectives in the creative field presents aspects that we as individuals, probably have never thought before. Everyone has their own thought process, especially when it comes to creativity. Embracing each other’s creative process and tying it together can result into a beautiful thing.
Who were some of your role models in the industry? What did you learn from them?
There’s a lot of creatives in the industry that I follow for various reasons within my creative thought process. It gives me different perspectives to view and possibly tie that back into my style/ creative flow with what I’m working on at that time. What I’ve learned since being a creative is to always keep an open mind to different ideas or things you see, you never know what can come about it. Keep pushing the creative boundaries and remind yourself to simply have fun.
What does the club’s “Everyone N” motto mean to you?
“Everyone N” to me means that every walk of life is welcome. No matter how or what you identify as, we are all one in the same. We come together as one and we take pride in that.
What does Black History Month mean to you?
Black History in general means everything to me. The many African American figures before me, sacrificed a lot to make the present a possibility for me & I don’t take that for granted. Without their help and making an impact in history, me & a lot of people like me, wouldn’t be in the positions that we’re in today. There’s still a lot more work to be done, but we’re in the right direction.
