NASHVILLE – The 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft pres. by adidas is here.
The annual event gives MLS clubs the chance to select the best prospects in collegiate soccer. While the SuperDraft has been around in its current form since 2000, this year’s draft will look a bit different.
Here’s everything you need to know about Thursday’s draft.
When is the SuperDraft and how can I tune in?
MLS SuperDraft 2021 presented by adidas is set for Thursday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. CT. It will be streamed live on MLSsoccer.com, the MLS App, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Pluto TV. You can also keep up with Nashville SC’s choices and moves on the club’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. You can also follow along with our live blog here.
Who is eligible for selection?
Most of the players available for selection are college seniors. The player pool also includes prospects from Generation adidas, a program designed to allow high-level younger players the chance to enter the SuperDraft early and sign a professional contract. What is different about this year’s draft?
Similar to the 2020 SuperDraft, this year’s draft will be held remotely, as opposed to one central location. Each club’s brass will make its picks from its home market. This year, the SuperDraft was reduced from four rounds to three rounds. Every club that received a 2021 fourth-round pick in trades prior to the announcement of the draft changes will receive a compensatory third-round pick at the end of the round.
What picks does Nashville SC own?
The pick order is determined in reverse order of the 2020 regular season standings, taking MLS Cup Playoff performance into account. 2021 expansion club Austin FC owns the first overall pick. As always, picks are subject to trades and other moves on draft day.
Nashville SC owns the following picks:
Round 1:
Pick 20
Round 2:
Pick 36 (Acquired via trade from Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Jan. 21)
Round 3:
Pick 73 (Acquired via trade from Philadelphia Union on Jan. 19)
Pick 74
Pick 86 (Compensatory pick for fourth-round pick acquired via trade from Minnesota United FC on Sept. 17)
