Nashville SC and América previously met at GEODIS Park in a Leagues Cup Showcase on Sept. 21, 2022. The Boys in Gold earned the victory over the Liga MX powerhouse via penalty kicks (4-2) following a 3-3 draw in regulation time.
Josh Bauer and Luke Haakenson scored for Nashville SC in the first 15 minutes of the match, with Jack Maher securing the third goal in the 89th minute of play. The match ultimately ended via penalty kicks where Nashville outlasted Club América by converting four penalty kicks.
Nashville SC advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating FC Cincinnati in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation last night. Injury time goalkeeper substitution Elliott Panicco delivered the win for Nashville by saving Matt Miazga’s penalty, and Dax McCarty scored the winning penalty to seal the victory.
Like the Round of 32, the Round of 16 is a must win match to remain part of Leagues Cup 2023.
