Key Storylines
Hi, Barbie! See What's Coming to GEODIS Park for Barbie Game Day ™ - The first 10,000 fans through the gates will receive an exclusive co-branded NSC x Barbie bandana, presented by Hyundai. Fans can also take a photo at one of our special Barbie Game Day ™ Photo Ops, including a Barbie-themed Hyundai and a life-size Barbie box.
Fans are also encouraged to dress as your role model and submit your photo on matchday for a chance to be featured on the video board.
Matchup History – There’s not a ton of history between these two sides considering Nashville SC has spent most of its MLS existence in the Eastern Conference while Portland competes in the Western Conference. The Timbers first and only visit to GEODIS Park was on July 3, 2022, a 2-2 result with goals from Hany Mukhtar and former Boy in Gold Sean Davis.
Hany Mukhtar, Joe Willis, and Dan Lovitz are the only Nashville SC players in who have started every match Nashville has played against the Portland Timbers.
Returning to the Squad – Although the squad entered the season with a handful of injuries resulting in a slightly depleted squad, head coach BJ Callaghan confirmed that a handful of players are getting closer to first team matchday involvement.
“Bryan [Acosta] is furthest away, Jacob [Shaffelburg] is in team training, and [Gastón] Brugman … has been in team training, and I’d say trending pretty good,” Callaghan said. “Julian Gaines is back in team training.”
Patrick Yazbek also logged his first minutes of the season against New York Red Bulls last Saturday.
A New Era for the NSC Academy – On Wednesday, Darren Powell was announced as the new Nashville SC Academy Director. Powell brings experience at the MLS Academy and United Soccer League levels.
“Darren has a tremendous track record of helping develop pro player pathways within Major League Soccer, and he has played a chief role in helping grow future First Team players,” said Nashville SC General Manager Mike Jacobs. “We are very excited to have someone with Darren’s level of experience within the MLS ecosystem and throughout every level of the game here in the United States.”
