After picking up a 2-0 midweek win over Toronto FC, The Boys in Gold take on the Five Stripes in an early kickoff Heineken Rivalry Week matchup at GEODIS Park.
Key Storylines
1. Last Time Out – Atlanta United last visited Music City on April 29, 2023. Nashville won that match 3-1 including goals from Teal Bunbury and Jacob Shaffelburg.
2. Injuries to Atlanta’s star players – Like most teams in MLS, Atlanta also had a midweek match. They played at FC Cincinnati, falling 1-0. The Five Stripes not only left Cincinnati without any points, but also left with injuries to some of their more important players. Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada and Greek forward Giorgos Giakoumakis were both subbed out due to injury, which could limit their involvement against the Boys in Gold on Saturday.
3. The Southern Belt - The team with the most points between Nashville SC, Atlanta United, Charlotte FC, and DC United in head-to-head matches decide whose supporters get the Southern Championship Belt at the end of each season. With a win and a loss against Charlotte, the Boys in Gold have the chance to stake another claim for the belt.
Opposition Player to Watch
Bombing up and down the right flank for Atlanta United is Brooks Lennon. The right back has started every match that he’s appeared in (12) and has the most minutes played of any outfield player for Atlanta (1080). With four assists and more Key Passes (31) than anyone else for the Five Stripes, he’s a key contributor to Atlanta’s playstyle.
