Consistently Competitive - The matchup between the Boys in Gold and the Philadelphia Union has historically been a tightly-contested meeting. Head Coach Gary Smith, who has coached in all four of the team’s previous meetings, knows what it’s going to take.
“I think the guys will always have in the forefront of their minds that the games we’ve had against Philadelphia are exceptionally tight and competitive and I also do think there are a lot of similarities between both of us,” Smith said. “So I’m not expecting anything different on Wednesday night and I’m sure they’ll be just as keen as we are to get back in positive territory.”
Eyes Forward - Even with three-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year winner Andre Blake gone on international duty, midfielder Randall Leal is looking forward to scoring chances against the Union regardless of who’s in the opposition's goal.
“Philadelphia is a very good team across all the lines, whether it’s defensively or in the attacking half” Leal said. “It’s going to be a good game no matter who plays and we need to try to win, we need it.”
