After earning a draw in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 against Inter Miami CF, the Boys in Gold will welcome the LA Galaxy to Music City Sunday at 2:00 p.m. CT.
Key Storylines
Friends to Foes – Tyler Boyd is set to face off against his former team for the first time Sunday as the Galaxy visit the Music City for the second time in their club’s history. Boyd was traded from the Galaxy to Nashville on December 30, 2023, which saw the Boys in Gold send two international roster spots and $150,000 in GAM to LA for the American international.
Battle of Unbeatens – While still only two matches into the 2024 season, Nashville (0W-2D-0L) and LA (1W-1D-0L) are set to do battle as two of 16 teams in MLS that have yet to record a loss in league play. The Boys in Gold will be tested at home by a Galaxy team that put up three goals against San Jose the week prior and is tied for third in the league with a +2 goal differential.
Seeking Win #1 – Not only will the Boys in Gold be seeking win number one of the 2024 MLS season, but also win number one against the Galaxy all-time. Nashville has only faced off against the Galaxy three times, holding a record of 0W-1D-2L across those three matches which all came in 2022. The most recent match between the two clubs was during the first round of the 2022 MLS Cup playoffs, which saw LA squeak past Nashville 1-0.
Players To Watch
Tyler Boyd, one of Nashville’s newest additions, is set to play against his former team on Sunday after being traded to Nashville in December. Boyd has provided an immediate impact to Nashville’s offense, tallying an assist in his Nashville debut against Moca FC in the Champions Cup with his quick skill and speed on the outside.
Dejan Joveljic has emerged as a young rising star for the Galaxy, tallying five goals and two assists in his last eight matches, with two goals in his first two matches of the 2024 season. The 24-year-old Serbian international has been a key piece in the Galaxy’s quest to rebuild after finishing in the bottom third of the Western Conference last season.
