NEWEST NASHVILLE SC SIGNING PLAYED WITH AND AGAINST TWO OF HIS NEW TEAMMATES
NASHVILLE – When Nashville SC’s inaugural Major League Soccer team gets together for the first time in Music City in January, some players will have to get to know dozens of brand-new, unfamiliar teammates.
That won’t be a problem for Dax McCarty, however.
Even though Nashville’s roster will be completely new, McCarty, who was acquired on Tuesday during MLS’ two-day trade window, will still have some familiar faces on the pitch with him. Most notably, he’ll be reunited his former Fire teammate David Accam.
The pair played together in Chicago during the 2017 season, helping guide the Fire to the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2012. McCarty is happy to be playing once again with the dynamic wide player he refers to as “King David.”
“I’m very excited to play with David again,” McCarty said. “I think our season that we had together with the Fire in 2017 was a fantastic season. I think it was probably the best season of David’s career up to this point, and it was a really good season for me as well. I think David is a wonderful player, and he’s a guy who is really exciting to play with. He has those intangibles that you just can’t teach with his speed and his quickness and his ability to score goals. I think he’s a really valuable piece to the puzzle in Nashville. I’m excited to get to work with him again and use all of his qualities and assets that are going to make our team dangerous.”
He also has a familiar foe joining him in the central midfield in Aníbal Godoy, who was acquired back in August from the San Jose Earthquakes. Aside from their battles in MLS over the last few years, the stalwarts squared off in Nashville back in 2017 during the Concacaf Gold Cup as McCarty’s United States drew Godoy’s Panama 1-1 at Nissan Stadium.
McCarty hopes that his partnership with another international-caliber player alongside him in the central midfield will help elevate everyone on the pitch, especially on the training ground.
“He’s been in MLS for a number of years proving himself,” said McCarty of Godoy. “He’s always been an elite player in MLS at the midfield position. He’s a difficult guy to play against, and I’m thankful I don’t have to do that anymore. I get to be on the same team as him. It’s going to be fantastic because we’re going to push each other in training, we’re going to try and use our experience not just in MLS but also on the international level to raise the level of play every day in training. Because that’s where good teams turn into great teams, in training. I certainly know a guy of his quality and experience is going to be able to help push our group in the right direction.”
