A Gulf War veteran, Nashville Fire Department Director Chief William Swann has risen through the ranks from a firefighter to becoming first African American Director Chief in the history of the Nashville Fire Department. Through his 25 years of service, he also served as an instructor at the Training Academy, Director of the Office of Emergency Management, and Nashville’s first African American Deputy Fire Director.
