Walker Zimmerman returns for his fourth season with Nashville SC after anchoring the backline that conceded the fourth-fewest goals in MLS this season (41) and the fewest road goals allowed in the league (20) in 2022. Zimmerman earned MLS Best XI honors in 2022, becoming the fifth player in MLS History to be named to the Best XI in four consecutive seasons. Zimmerman’s four MLS Best XI selections are the most among active MLS players, while ranking tied for fifth all-time. In 2021, Zimmerman was named the MLS Defender of the Year for a second consecutive season, becoming the first defender in over a decade to reach that feat. Zimmerman was also selected to the MLS Best XI in 2021 for the third consecutive year and named to the MLS All-Star Team. Zimmerman anchored Nashville SC to a 0.96 goals-against average in his appearances in 2021. At the international level, Zimmerman represented the United States Men’s National Team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in Qatar, playing in all four matches for the States including three starts. In the most anticipated group stage match of the year, Zimmerman played all 90 minutes at center back in the 0-0 draw against England, making a crucial block on England forward Harry Kane in the 10’ minute. He also made five recoveries and two clearances en route to the clean sheet. He was vital in the United States Men’s National Team 2022 World Cup berth, earning 12 caps in the last calendar year, including a night where he captained the Stars and Bars to a 3-0 victory over Honduras and registered a goal and an assist for the first ever time in the shutout performance on Feb. 2, 2022. Overall, Zimmerman has earned 39 caps and Captained the USMNT five times.
